Keeping chickens is a popular hobby nowadays and is increasing all the time. Most new poultry keepers just keep a few chickens or ducks, either for the fresh eggs or just to enjoy the birds as pets. Be warned, keeping poultry is very addictive, you may start out with 'just a few', but your enthusiam if not tempered by common sense will push you towards yet more. Never take on more birds than you can look after well, it's the birds that suffer not you.

Chickens always get the major share of any discussion about poultry, but ducks and geese also have their enthusiasts as well. The rules here are pretty much the same, except with geese you have a very long term committment, as they live for many years, upwards of 10 years and beyond.
